SLOW SPEED INTERNET 
With COVId-19 pandemic, at its peak in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have decided to extend ban on 4G internet services till May 11, 2020, despite appeals by doctors and students for its restoration. Without internet services in the past nine month’s people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered in general but the student community in particular.
While virtual classroom is being connected with students, the main hurdle is the low speed of internet, though the government has gone for innovations like a tie up AIR and Doordarshan.
Students in Kashmir valley have suffered a lot since August 5, last year along with business community as for months no telephone or internet services were accessible here.
Low speed internet has taken its toll on the students, researchers and those students who need internet coaching.
According to the latest order, the administration has extended the restrictions on high-speed internet in the Union Territory after the scheduled review.
The renewed order, signed by Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary to the government, states that “the internet speed shall be restricted to 2G only” till 11 May.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the internet connectivity was snapped in August 2019 before the Central government broke the erstwhile state into two union territories. The internet service and telephones were restored gradually, the August ban ended up being the longest internet ban in the world.
