Minus temperatures have been recorded in many areas of Kashmir valley while the cold conditions are prevailing which indicate that winter has set in.
There is a lot of dip in the temperatures and with the latest snowfall and rains, there is a lot of chill and the winter conditions have started prevailing not only in the far flung areas of Kashmir but also in the plains.
According to the MeT officials night temperatures were in minus at Gulmarg and Pahalgam and at many other hill stations of Kashmir.
A meteorological department official here told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS) that Srinagar recorded a low of 5.2°C against 5.6°C on the previous night. The temperature is however above 2.7°C for this time of the year in the summer capital, he said.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.2°C, same as on previous night, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.4°C against 2.2°C on the previous night, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 4.6°C against 3.1°C on the previous night, the official said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 4.8°C against 6.7°C on the previous night, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.0°against 1.0°C on the previous night, the official said.
Leh recorded a low of minus 6.6°C against last night’s minus 7.6°C while mercury settled at 8.4°C, the official said. The meteorological department has said that there was no forecast for any major snowfall for now.
