Authorities after the recent snowfall have closed all vehicular traffic on Srinagar-Ladakh highway and also on the alternate highway between Srinagar-Jammu known as Mughal road.

This is the second running day that the traffic authorities have not allowed any vehicular traffic on these two roads due to the slippery conditions at many patches of these roads and they fear mishaps if they allow the traffic to move.

As the weatherman has predicted wet weather in the coming days it is unlikely that the authorities will allow the traffic on these two roads while as many other such roads like Bandipora-Gurez road have also faced the same closure due to the slippery conditions and snow.

According to the news agencies in its report on Friday on closure of roads it said.

Srinagar-Ladakh road was closed as a precaution following fresh snowfall at Sonmarg, Zojila Pass, Captain More and Drass on the highway on Thursday.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) pressed into service men and machinery to clear the snow besides conducting necessary weekly repairs to make the road traffic worthy.

The historical Mughal road also remained closed for vehicular traffic for a second day following snowfall a day earlier. A snow clearance operation is on to open it for vehicular traffic.

Meanwhile, other far flung areas of the Kashmir Valley which were closed on Thursday following snowfall were open for traffic except Gurez in Bandipora district. The snow clearance operation on the road is going on.
