The government is closely monitoring the situation after the recent surge in the covid-19 cases of Omicron variant. As there is a dip in the cases, the authorities of SKIMS have decided to resume the OPD services from Wednesday.

OPD services in SKIMS were suspended due to the surge in covid cases though the hospitalization of the patients infected with covid was very less as compared to the earlier Delta variant of covid.

As a precautionary measure the government has taken a lot of steps to arrest the spread of infection as many doctors and paramedical staff were infected by the Omicron variant.

“In the interest of patient care and keeping in view plateauing of COVID wave in Kashmir, it is hereby ordered that the functioning of SKIMS OPD will resume from Wednesday i.e. 2nd February 2022,” reads the order issued by Medical Superintendent SKIMS Farooq A Jan, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Pertinently, OPD services were closed and tele consultations were started at SKIMS Soura in the second week of January after Covid cases surged in J&K.
