In order to understand the basic needs of urban pockets, it is the duty of the government to understand the different layers of the society and to provide them with equal opportunities to move forward in their lives.
Such sentiments were expressed by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha who recently asked the officials of the Municipal Corporation and other stakeholders to understand these challenges and work accordingly.
We have taken a huge leap towards strengthening urban governance by establishing a transparent, accountable, participative and corruption-free system. It is our collective responsibility to provide basic minimum facilities, means of livelihood and better services to the people.
The partnership with Azim Premji University will strive towards improving the education scenario in all SMC’s Schools and continuous professional development of teachers and administrative leadership.
Srinagar Municipal Corporation will have to work more on the ground to provide the facilities to the urban pockets and also to keep the city clean by employing more and more such agencies on the ground so that the solid waste does not remain visible on the ground especially in the coming spring season of tourism.
Srinagar city still has huge heaps of garbage visible on the streets especially in the old city and it remains so for days together. The SMC should scientifically act against this problem and should clean the city before dawn like the other cities so that the solid waste is not carried to the dumping sites during day time.
