On Monday reports said that police and civil administration visited historic Jamia Masjid of Srinagar in Downtown area and entered into the Masjid to take the final call to reopen this Masjid for the prayers in view of coming Shabi-Baraat followed by holy month of Ramdhan.
After the visit of IGP and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to Jamia Masjid Srinagar media reports have suggested the government is seriously mulling to reopen it for the normal prayers after it remains closed for a long time.
The Masjid as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) remained closed for the mandatory congregational prayers for 30 straight weeks.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) told KNO that the government is considering reopening the historic Jamia Masjid in the next week.
Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir today visited the historic Masjid to review the arrangements. The duo also held meetings in this regard with Imam Jamia and Secretary Auqaf Jamia Masjid.
Pertinently, the Masjid was closed for the mandatory prayers due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Also, the head cleric of Jamia Masjid Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continues to remain closed, who gives Friday sermons at the pulpit of the historic Masjid.
