SRINAGAR: A young Kashmir trucker has received a bullet and later died in the hospital. He was identified as Waseem Majeed Mir son of Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Goripora Darpora Bomai Sopore.
Army has said the driver received a bullet as he ignored the signal at a naka and was chased. Police said they are investigating the issue.
The army has put brief details in a tweet. “On 05 Feb 2025, based on a very specific intelligence input about move of terrorists, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was established by Security Forces,” the army said in a tweet. “One speeding suspicious civil truck was spotted. When challenged, the truck didn’t stop despite repeated warnings instead accelerated further while crossing the check post. Alert troops pursued the vehicle for over 23 km. Shots were fired aiming on tyres to deflate which forced vehicle to halt at Sangrama Chowk. Consequent to detailed search, the injured driver was immediately evacuated to GMC Baramulla by Security Forces where he was declared dead.”
The tweet further added, “The fully loaded truck has been sent to nearest police station. Detailed search of the truck in police custody is underway and investigation on antecedents of the suspect is in progress.”
From another official source, this information was available, “During night hours One Truck driver while driving his truck (Veh no JK O3G 2567) from Srinagar towards Baramulla has received a bullet near Jamkash Chinned Sangrama Baramulla, he has been taken to GMC Baramulla where doctors declared him dead. The person has identified as Waseem Majeed Mir S/O Abdul Majeed Mir. R/O Goripora Darpora Bomai Sopore, Aged about 35. His dead body has been kept in the morchery GMC Baramulla. In this regard SP Operation along with DYSP headquarters reached GMC Baramulla. Further details are awaited.”
