The Union Government has sanctioned a massive package of ₹4,224.23 crores for 316 road projects in Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV). This is the biggest ever package sanctioned for J&K under PMGSY, aiming to provide connectivity to 390 eligible habitations with a population of over 250 people.

The package will cover a total road length of 1,781.33 kilometers, significantly boosting rural road connectivity in J&K. The Union Ministry of Rural Development will bear ₹3,801.80 crore, while the J&K government will contribute ₹422.42 crore.

The projects will primarily benefit the Jammu region, which still lags behind Kashmir in terms of road connectivity. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan for sanctioning the projects.

This significant investment is expected to usher in a new era of prosperity in far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir, providing a major boost to rural road connectivity and improving the overall quality of life for residents.
