Jammu, April 10
With 23 new cases coming in on Friday, the total number of coronavirus cases in J&K jumped to 209, with 197 active cases. Out of the 23 fresh cases, 16 tested positive in the Kashmir valley and seven in Jammu province, including family members of the woman who died on April 8.
With 51 positive cases, Srinagar district tops the list of most Covid cases, followed by Bandipora with 36 cases.
Apart from the family members of the deceased woman from Udhampur, seven positive cases were those who had attended religious congregation at Nizammudin.
“Today’s positives include 7 members of a religious congregation who were traced, and isolated on March 27. Just proves that determined tracking works. Appeal please cooperate,” Principal Secretary (Planning) and spokesman for J&K administration Rohit Kansal tweeted.
As per the official reports, 46,158 persons are under observation while 7,726 persons are under home quarantine, 415 are in hospital quarantine and 27,891 are under home surveillance.
According to official data, 2,961 samples were taken of which 2,754 tested negative and 207 positive. Six positive cases were discharged from the hospitals while four have died of the infection.
12 arrested for violating lockdown protocol
- The J&K Police have arrested over 12 persons in the Sopore area for allegedly attending the funeral of a local Jaish-e-Mohammad militant commander a few days ago in violation of the lockdown protoco.
- Jaish commander Sajad Nawab Dar was killed on Wednesday in the Gulabad area of Sopore. A large number of locals later attended his funeral and the videos and pictures went viral on the social media.
- The police later registered a first information report against those persons for violating protocols and government advisories barring social gatherings in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
