EID ARRANGEMENTS

In a strange manner the government of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to re-impose lockdown in the entire Kashmir following steep rise in Covid-19 cases.

Allowing people to move freely in every district of Kashmir, had already done the damage as hundreds of people are testing positive with each passing day and Srinagar city is the worst hit.

Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha re-imposition of lockdown is being criticized by some sections of the people and say that forcing people to stay indoors is no solution.

The government has decided to ease these restrictions on July 28, with some caveats and the markets would be opened in a phased manner so that social distancing becomes a norm.

Recently Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, said that the markets shall remain open for three days from July 28 to July 30 to facilitate hassle-free purchase of sacrificial animals and other necessary items.

This Divisional Commissioner said this while chairing a meeting to review Eid arrangements, he also directed all DCs of Kashmir to establish sale centers where people can purchase the sacrificial animals with proper COVID-19 protocol.

He instructed DCs to open up markets in a phased manner with different timings to avoid gatherings and violation of social distancing protocol by the public thronging market places during these three days deals.

This is a good beginning in order to understand the ground realities of Kashmir and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir should not be misled by the officers by trying to show that everything was hunky-dory here.
