As predicted by the weatherman, there has been a fresh snowfall in the upper reaches of Kashmir and the rains have lashed the plains especially in Srinagar city.
This fresh snowfall has brought with it a new cold wave with a dip in temperatures, people have started wearing the winter clothes back as in the past few weeks due to the bright sunshine and the rising temperatures during the day they had forgotten that winter is yet to be over.
Though Srinagar city witnessed a lot of rainfall but there was brief fresh snow also. Due to the rains and snow, most of the roads and low lying areas were filled with rain waters and authorities have pressed into service some of their pumps to make the roads dry.
Macchil and Z-Gali areas in remote Kupwara district recorded snow between one foot to 18 inches, while places like Gulmarg, Baramulla and Sonamarg recorded up to seven inches of snow, MET department in Srinagar said.
The precipitation has brought down the day temperature by several degrees. While the maximum temperature on Friday was 15 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was 3.8 degrees Celsius, the MET officials in Srinagar further said.
