Surge in Demand

The Vande Bharat Express connecting Katra to Srinagar has become a game-changer for travelers in the region, offering a faster, more comfortable, and safer journey. However, the train’s popularity has led to a surge in demand, with all seats booked for the entire month of July. The waiting list for tickets is extensive, with some passengers facing significant waits.
To address the high demand, the Railways is considering increasing the number of coaches in the train. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has also requested the Railways Minister to enhance the service by adding more coaches, increasing frequency, and rescheduling timings for better public convenience. This would likely involve scheduling the departure from Katra in the early morning hours and the return journey from Srinagar in the late evening.
The Vande Bharat Express has reduced travel time between Katra and Srinagar to just three hours, making it a preferred choice for passengers. The train’s modern amenities have received positive feedback from commuters. The service has also boosted tourism in the region, with many passengers opting for the train to avoid the hassle of traveling on National Highway 44.
The Railways plans to extend the Vande Bharat Express service to Jammu’s Tawi Railway Station, providing a direct link to Delhi. This expansion will further enhance connectivity and facilitate travel to and from Kashmir. With the growing popularity of the Vande Bharat Express, it’s essential for the Railways to continue improving its services to meet the increasing demand and provide a seamless travel experience for passengers.
