Burhan Wani anniversary: Clashes break out in Tral village

Srinagar: Clashes break out in Nowdal village of Tral town in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district between locals and government forces on Sunday.

Reports said that as youths tried to march towards the native village of slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani to pay tribute to him on his second death anniversary. However, the forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the youth and foiled their march that triggers clashes in the area.

Fearing pro-Burhan protests, the authorities imposed curfew in Tral – native area of the slain militant commander on the second consecutive day.

Restrictions were imposed on the movement of people in the rest of the valley to prevent pro-Burhan rallies.

Curfew was imposed in Tral on Saturday as a precautionary measure to maintain peace in the valley, a senior police official said.

The graveyard of Wani and his residence at Shariefabad has been sealed by forces to prevent people from marching there.

Burhan Wani, commander of the militant group Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed along with two associates Sartaj Ahmad and Pervez Ahmad in a gunfight in Bemdoor a village of Kokernag in Islamabad district in South Kashmir.
