Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said a gunfight is underway between militants and the government forces in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“Encounter at Batpora in Handwara. SFs (Security forces) (are) on job,” police said on Twitter.
A source said one militant was killed in the ongoing gunfight. However, there was no immediate official confirmation.
As the forces reached near a particular spot they fire several rounds in air resulting panic in the area, they said.
A police officer confirmed to Muslim kashmir the presence of two to three militants in the area.
