Farooq’s appeal for peace

Dr Farooq Abdullah recently in the parliament appealed Prime Minister Narindra Modi to rise upto the occasion and start a peace process with Pakistan and all the stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that many people may not like in the Parliament, but the fact remains that without the inclusion of Pakistan there can be no peace in Kashmir or in South Asia.

National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah in his maiden speech in the 16th Lok Sabha raised the issue of peace in Kashmir and made an emotional appeal to the government to start a dialogue with Pakistan. North Korea, which was making nuclear missiles, atom bombs, has made peace with US President Donald Trump. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are meeting each other to find peace. But we have failed to do the same for Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq lamented in the Parliament.

The National Conference leader said the anti-Muslim rhetoric building up in the country needed to stop because it was dangerous and said that it can break the country and after growing communalism, India does not need any external enemy to break the country. Pointing his finger towards the ruling bench, Abdullah asked the BJP to take note of the fact that Muslims are as Indians as you are.

In a surprise development, opposition PDP welcomed Farooq Abdullah’s statement in Parliament on Kashmir and said the Centre should utilise the consensus among the political groups in the Valley and respond to it at the earliest. Farooq Abdullah along with his son has been advocating peace process with Pakistan and Hurriyat. The same stand is being advocated by PDP and this is for the first time that most of the mainstream political parties are pitching for dialogue with Pakistan and Hurriyat for resolution of Kashmir dispute. In such atmosphere, New Delhi is finding it difficult to wish away the growing demand for a permanent solution to the Kashmir problem along with Pakistan and Hurriyat.
