Regional parties should form a united front against BJP: Omar Abdullah

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Saturday that talks with Mamata Banerjee are underway for a possible coalition to ‘take on BJP in the general elections.’

Abdullah, who called on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here during the day, said they had mainly talked about the prevailing situation in the country and the need to form a united front to take on BJP in next year’s Lok Sabha polls, besides discussing the issue of unrest in Kashmir.

“The question you asked about Mamata didi’s proposal, is what we’re discussing – how best can regional parties come together to take on BJP in general elections. No effort towards opposition unity will succeed unless Congress is able to fight BJP in the way we hope,” Abdullah told a news source.

Asked whether Congress would be a part of the proposed federal front, Abdullah while refusing to give a name to the proposed alliance, said it would be wrong to pick and choose between the parties, stressed on the importance of assembling all the anti-BJP forces together. (Agencies)
