Fresh batch of 670 pilgrims leaves for Amarnath

Srinagar : A batch of 670  pilgrims left Jammu on Wednesday to perform the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

They left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in an escorted convoy of 17 vehicles and included yatris going to the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, an official said.

The 60-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on June 28 has been going on smoothly. Till date, 2,64,063 pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.

More pilgrims have visited the cave shrine so far in 2018, than in each of the last three years.

In 2017, only 2,60,003 pilgrims had performed the Amarnath Yatra during the 40 days that it was officially allowed.

The 60-day Amarnath Yatra will end on August 26, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
