Slain Barzulla militant laid to rest at ancestral graveyard

Srinagar : Hundreds of people late last night took part in the last rites of Barzulla militant whose mortal remains were brought form frontier district of Kupwara yesterday after over a month of his death.

Hundreds of people, including men, women and children hit the streets in old Barzulla when body of Mudasir Ahmad Bhat was brought from Jumgund forests of Kupwara around 9:30 Tuesday, witnesses told Kashmir Reader today. Chanting pro-freedom slogans, the mourners carried Bhat’s body in a procession to his ancestral graveyard.

The exhumation of the body followed submission of an application by the family before the District Magistrate Kupwara after they saw pictures of Mudasir through social media and later at the concerned police station.

The family also provided DNA samples as part of the procedure for establishing the identity.

The DNA report was received by the administration on Monday and the family was subsequently informed.

On June 29, the army had claimed to have killed an unidentified militant in an encounter at Tunga Top forest area of Kachama. The slain was buried NK Gali area of Jumgund forests.
