Sinking ship of PDP

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti is trying hard to keep her flock together and has so far tried her best to bring down the rebellion in the party. She has now listened to the voices of dissent within the party and while making a reshuffle she has given the post of vice-president to Abdul Rehman Veeri as previously her maternal uncle Sartaj Madni was holding this post. Her all the close relatives including her younger brother Tassaduq Mufti have been kept out from the key party posts.

Similarly, there was lot of resentment among the party lawmakers and other workers against Nayeem Akhtar. He has also been dumped from the party affairs as Mehbooba Mufti has started trying to bring back her six lawmakers who have rebelled against her.

Can Mehbooba Mufti hold her fort in the present circumstances? There are already rumours making rounds in the media circles that Sajjad Gani Lone is going to make a government taking a way a good chunk of lawmakers from PDP. Mehbooba Mufti has been accusing the Central Government of trying to engineer a rebellion within her party. She said that if the BJP government in the Centre will try to break her party it will be having dangerous consequences on the political landscape of Kashmir. She said that if the Central Government of BJP wants to break PDP let them go ahead. She said that people of Kashmir will lose all faith on the democratic process which has been instilled in them by the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Mehbooba Mufti in her own way is trying to play the Kashmir card and is now trying to show to the people that she was thrown out of the power by BJP because she refused to make any surrender on the Kashmir cause. Will her semi-separatist posturing help her as she is trying to portray all the rebels within her party as agents of the Central Government?
