Junaid  Mattu elected mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation

SRINAGAR: Junaid Azim Mattu has been elected as the next Mayor of Srinagar. The corum of the newly elected Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) had met for the first time after taking the oath of office and elected the leader.

Mattu, who a member of the Peoples Conference before he joined the National Conference (NC) and remained its spokesman for many years. In the run-up to the Municipal Polls, he quit the party and contested independently from four wards in Srinagar.

Junaid Azim Mattu, councillor from ward No. 14, 18 and 65, had filed his nomination for election to the post of Mayor as the candidate of Peoples’ Conference.

Mattu required 35 votes to be a mayor of the SMC. Reports said Mattu got 40 votes while his close rival got 26 votes. Four votes were declared invalid.
