BJP ambitions in Kashmir

BJP has been sending confusing signals to Kashmir in the past four years. From the agenda of alliance with PDP to hard policy against separatists, the Central leadership of BJP has been trying every new trick in Kashmir to gain control over them politically. The latest from the BJP is that they are trying to make a new government and have still channels open with all the rebels in PDP and are also trying to pouch on some lawmakers from other parts including Congress and National Conference.
Ram Madhav recently came to Kashmir to look for the possibility of stitching a new alliance minus NC and PDP for the future assembly elections to be held in J&K State. Recently BJP supported Sajjad Lone’s protégé Junaid Azim Mattoo to become the Mayor of Srinagar city. BJP and Sajjad Lone were able to till the balance of the councilors in favour of Junaid despite all efforts by National Conference and PDP to get their proxies elected for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Srinagar.
BJP’s Central leadership has been trying to forge a new alliance in Kashmir Valley along with Sajjad Gani Lone and some rebel lawmakers of PDP to make a new political alliance in Kashmir Valley to elbow out the mainstream political parties like National Conference and PDP from Kashmir Valley especially from the Srinagar city. Sajjad Gani Lone has been very happy that finally he was able to capture Srinagar Municipal Corporation which has traditionally remained in the hands of National Conference. Sajjad thanked BJP for landing support to its candidate Junaid Azim Mattoo to become the Mayor of Srinagar city.
BJP recently in Jammu said that they will try to form the new government as the Governor has yet to make any decision about the fate of present State assembly. National Conference and PDP have already warned Central Government about their plans to make the new government by trying to forge a new alliance of lawmakers to get the majority and push their agenda in the sensitive state of J&K.
