Panchayat elections: JRL calls for shutdown in poll-bound areas on Tuesday

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) – an amalgam of separatist outfits – has called for shutdown in areas going to polls in the ninth and last phase of Panchayat elections on Tuesday.

In a statement, the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have asked the people living in Natnussa, Drugmulla, Magam, Banakoot, Tujjar Sharief, Hardaboora, Tangmarg, Wakura, Chadoora, Pakherpora, Kakapora, Awantipora, Zainpora, Kulgam, and Pahalgam to observe shutdown during the 9th phase of “sham panchayat elections” thrust on them by the “authoritarian” state .

JRL asked People to demonstrate their total rejection and disregard of this “futile exercise” by staying away and boycotting it completely.
