Rain, snow in Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand to return by Feb 13 again; Avalanche warning issued

srinagar:-All the three hilly states of North India have remained rain surplus in the month of February. Talking about figures, Jammu and Kashmir is at present rain surplus by 99%, followed by Uttarakhand by 68% and Himachal Pradesh by 36%. The reason for such excessive rainfall activities can be attributed to the series of active Western Disturbances that kept approaching the Western Himalayas one after the other.

Adding to the series of these systems, another Western Disturbance is approaching Jammu and Kashmir. The system would start affecting by the evening of February 12, with which light to moderate rain and snow will begin over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These activities are expected to intensify between February 13 and 15 and cover larger areas.

During this time, some isolated heavy spells also cannot be ruled out. There are also possibilities of several national and state highways along with arterial roads getting blocked. Moreover, threat of landslides and avalanche looms large over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, tourists are advised to avoid heading towards the hilly states between February 13 and 15, as heavy snowfall on these days might ruin their travel plans.

On the other hand, the snowfall activities might prove to be a boon for all those who love to seek adventure in the Himalayas. These activities will boast the skiing destinations such as Gulmarg and we predict large amount of footfall post this snowy episode.
