Stranded Kashmir bound passengers protest in Jammu, demand an airlift

Srinagar;The Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday lathicharged valley bound passengers in winter capital after they protested against the failure of the administration to open the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Reports said that thousands of stranded passengers took to the streets and protested against the administration for not restoring the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The passengers blocked the Canal road Jammu demanding special flights to airlift them to the valley as they claimed that prices of commodities in Jammu has soared too high.

Media reports suggest that police is on the spot to pacify the situation. The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connectivity of the valley with rest of the world remains closed for the sixth consecutive day.

Delayed reports also suggest that clashes erupted after the students of the nearby science college “attacked” the protesting valley bound passengers that led to clashes in the area.
