Srinagar: Life remained paralyzed in the capital Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir on Sunday on the call given by Joint Resistance Leaders (JRL) against continued crackdown on pro-freedom people and also possible tempering to Article 35(A) by Central Government. In Srinagar city, police and authorities imposed restrictions in five police stations of downtown bringing life to standstill. Most of the business establishments remained closed in entire Kashmir especially in the various townships. Similarly, public transport was off the roads and most of the sensitive places witnessed lot of security bandobast in Srinagar city.
Shutdown was witnessed on Sunday in Banihal and adjacent areas in solidarity with people of Kashmir and the people of Banihal said that they are against the mass arrests in Kashmir Valley.
Police deployed additional paramilitary troops in all the sensitive places of Srinagar city in order to avoid any violence and protests. In the past two days, police and security forces have been arresting hundreds of pro-separatist elements from entire Kashmir including from Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamiat-e-Ahle-Hadith. The raids according to the police sources will continue as they are framing lists of trouble makers in all the sensitive places of Kashmir and said that all of them would be arrested very soon.
Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday appealed people to maintain calm and not to pay heed to any of the rumours on the streets of Kashmir. He said that more additional paramilitary troops would be rushed to Kashmir to hold free and fair elections. He said that all these developments were normal routine work and people should not believe in rumours.
