Handwara gunfight: Thousands attended funeral prayers of slain LeT militant in Sopore

Sopore:  At least two rounds of funeral prayers were held for slain Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Ishfaq Majid Mir at his ancestral village Brath Kalan area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla on Monday.

Majeed was killed in a 55-hour long gunfight with government forces in Handwara.

Eyewitnesses said that despite chilly weather and continued rains thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of slainIshfaq Majeed Mir at his native village Brath.

Ishfaq was among the two militants killed in one of the longest gunfights between militants and government forces  at Babagund area of Handwara in Kupwara district. Five forces personnel were also killed in the fierce 55 hour long gunfight. 

Reports said that the area witnessed intense Pro-Freedom, Pro-Islam and Pro-Pakistan slogans as massive processions took Ishfaq to lay him to rest.

Police said that the body of Ishfaq was handed over to his family around 11pm last night.

Meanwhile authorities have also deployed huge number of forces to curb any protests. Mobile internet facilities have also been suspended in the area.
