Traffic mess

As the darbar is official going to open in Srinagar, there is a huge traffic mess on the streets of Srinagar and the authorities have been only passing the buck from one wing of the government to another. There are craters and potholes in every street of Srinagar and the conditions of the roads are too bad which are only adding to the traffic mess in entire city. It takes hours for the employees and children to reach to their respective destinations with traffic authorities only busy to add to the confusion by stopping the vehicles to slap fines on them.

In this connection the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir convened a meeting to review traffic related issues across the city.  Identification of Taxi, Mini bus and Auto-rickshaw stands, identification and operationalization of parking sites, improvement of cross roads and intersections, removal of encroachment and vendors at Pantha Chowk and Parimpora bus stand, face lift of Parimpora bus stand, checking of overloading on different routes in the city, management of traffic lights, control of noise pollution and other issues were discussed.

He stressed the officers to ensure removal of all bottlenecks immediately for the traffic de-congestion across the capital city. To avoid inconvenience to the general public,  the Divisional Commissioner stressed all concerned officers to enforce ‘’No Horn Zones’’ near hospitals, educational institutions and courts immediately. He asked concerned officers to ensure the installation of maximum number of sign boards in this regard near hospitals, educational institutions and courts for the convenience of drivers.

The Srinagar administration is working on a range of measures including enhancing the volume of public transport and regulating its operation in the district. Various measures are being taken to redress and enhance the public transport in the district which includes replacing the old buses with the new ones. Besides, the administration is also working on to introduce electric busses with special provisions made for female passengers.
