As the holy month of Ramzan is going to start, people of Kashmir have lot of expectations from the authorities to make this month at least hassle free for them in many ways. There is a huge traffic mess and there is no mechanism to check the market rates. Chicken, Mutton and other essential commodities like vegetables are being sold by the wholesalers and retailers at their own prices. There is complete lack of coherence in different wings of the government to check the markets and keep the rates uniform. Similarly is the condition of Fruit Mandi in Parimpora where the wholesalers are selling fruits to the retailers at very high rates. There is an urgent need to check the markets and make this holy month of Ramzan at least a month of ease for the common people.
In this direction, Divisional administration has directed all Deputy Commissioners to start intense market checking across the valley on daily basis and take strict legal action against profiteers and black marketers. Adequate stock of essential commodities like rice, flour and sugar are available in the valley, besides additional quota of sugar is being provided to the consumers. Div Com said that all Deputy Commissioners would ensure the availability of essential commodities in the Valley, besides ensuring display of rate list in their shops.
He also exhorted upon the SMC authorities to provide better sanitation arrangements, besides installation and repairing of street lights in the city and other important religious places. He directed PDD and PHE officials to ensure the uninterrupted power and water supply during the holy month. He stressed for round the clock transport facilities to the devotees visiting Hazratbal and other religious places. He also asked all Deputy Commissioners of Valley to prepare adequate route plan with traffic department so that better transport facility is provided to the people during these auspicious days and asked the traffic department to publicize the route-plan through media.
