Internet restoration

With pitch going high for the restoration of internet services in Kashmir Valley as it is shut along with pre-paid mobile service since August 5, 2019, Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Girish Chandra Murmu said that internet would be restored in phased manner without giving any timeline.

While talking to media at Sheeri in Baramulla district, Murmu said that situation has improved a lot in Kashmir with the help of police and security forces and added that they were assessing the situation on daily basis for the restoration of internet services.

The statement of Lt Governor Murmu has come at a time when during the winter session of the Parliament, Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed Lok Sabha that their government has no plans in hand to make internet as a fundamental right for the people of the country.

The response of the Union Government came after lot of opposition parties along with people of Kashmir have been demanding restoration of internet services in Kashmir. Rajya Sabha opposition leader of Congress Ghulam Nabi Azad has already said that due to the internet ban there was an adverse impact on the lives of people especially the education sector and health care sector were suffering by the ban on internet.

Students in Kashmir are waiting for the easing of restrictions on the internet services as they are facing lot of hurdles and difficulties while studying during the winter here.
