Abrogation of article 370 on August 5, 2019, has badly hit tourism sector in entire erstwhile J&K State. Not only Kashmir valley has been hit but the negative vibes are being felt in Ladakh and Jammu also. Ladakh has been carved out as a separate Union Territory with direct control of the central government with no legislature.

Ladakh has traditionally witnessed huge rush of tourist during summers, but the abrogation of article 370 followed by clampdown, impacted footfall in that Union Territory also.

Will Ladakh witness the impact of article 370 abrogation even in the year 2020 is to be seen. Traditionally Ladakh has only witnessed summer tourism and its season is limited for few months. We are already in the month of February 2020 and it would be not predicted yet what would be the health of the tourist season in this year for Ladakh.

Ladakh has huge potential for tourism and having huge land, it has also scope for the private players to come and develop huge tourist’s resorts especially in Kargil district.

Kargil and Zanskar are almost unexploited for the tourism while the previous political governments only promoted Leh at the cost of these two places. Chadder trek during winters on the frozen river of Zanskar despite no promotion attract lot of tourists during winters also.

Now being the Union Territory, Ladakh has lot of potential for the tourists and even in the tourist season of few months it can have huge rush of tourists. It is now the responsibility of the central government to promote Ladakh as a tourist destination in a big way so that this hilly area attract tourist for the coming season.
