Another review

Authorities have been constantly reviewing the ground situation in Kashmir valley and those reviews have eased the restrictions on internet services also. In the latest review meeting, the government has decided to keep the curbs on high-speed 3G, 4G Internet services have been extended till March 17 in Jammu and Kashmir.

This decision was taken after the latest review meeting and the authorities along with police and security forces are closely watching on the situation on the ground. Internet curbs were imposed soon after the central government decided to move ahead to scrap article 370 on August 4, last year.

Complete ban was imposed internet services and mobile phones and even the landlines were off on August 4, last year as the central government as a precautionary measure decided to go for a complete clampdown in Jammu and Kashmir to avoid any trouble.

The curbs on internet services were recently eased and as regards service to pre-paid SIMs card, the service providers have been asked to provide access only after SIMs are verified as per norms applicable to post-paid connections.

The 2G which is synonymous to slow internet is also restricted to 1674 white-listed websites approved by the government. The service providers have been already asked not to allow access to any social media applications allowing peer-to-peer communication and virtual private network (VPN) applications.
