SP College organises weeklong celebrations on International Women’s Day

SRINAGAR, MARCH 10: With an objective to intensify awareness about Gender Equality among the students, the Department of English, S. P. College hosted a series of events during the week to commemorate the International Women’s Day, 2020.

This year the theme of International Women’s Day was “I am generation equality; Realising Women’s rights”.

The weeklong celebrations started with a painting competition, where students showcased their creativity and portrayed their ideas through colours. The activities provided opportunities to the students to interact and express their views on gender related issues. Other events like symposium, quiz competitions, cultural programmes, interactive sessions etc were also organised. The students who gave the best performances were awarded with prizes and certificates.

The celebrations also included a talk on “women’s health and non-communicable diseases” by Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Ashraf Ganie from SKIMS. Dr Ganie spoke at length about the diseases like obesity, diabetes, mellitus, hypertension hypothyroidism, PCOS etc. The lecture was followed by an interactive question answer session in which the audience raised queries to which the resource person responded in a satisfactory manner.

The Principal SP College, Prof. (Dr.) Khurshid Ahmad Khan lauded the officials for organising such an event.
