Srinagar has diminished purchasing power

Srinagar city is under lockdown due to coronavirus spread from 19 of March. Administration decided to close down the city as one lady tested positive from Khanyar locality. All such measures by taken in the interests of the residents and people also cooperated with government to enforce yet another lockdown.

Srinagar is already suffering due to the severe economic downfall which started on August 5, last year when central government decided to go for a massive lockdown in entire Kashmir to avoid violence and protests against the abrogation of article 370.

So the fresh lockdown due to the COVID-19 has a context. People have very less purchasing power as in srinagar city already thousands of youth have lost jobs in private sector due to previous lockdown. Srinagar administration is trying to provide a helping hand to the residents by bringing on their door step ration, LPG and other essential items. Administration is ignoring a basic fact that in Srinagar district hundreds of families do not have the required money to get ration and LPG as the severe economic downfall has robbed them off such power.

It is the need of the hour that administration understands the gravity of problem and try to help those thousands of families who have very little money left to survive due to the previous eight month long lockdown.

Police alone can only create salience of graveyard in Srinagar city, while the hunger and struggle for survival is going on for large number of families here.
