SRINAGAR DESERVE RESPITE

Srinagar city is under lockdown due to Covid-19 threat from March 19. District administration of Srinagar decided to go for lockdown as on March 18, an aged woman from Khanyar locality of Srinagar tested positive and was immediately hospitalized.
All the primary and secondary contacts of the woman were quarantined and kept under surveillance. According to the wisdom of district administration Srinagar, this was a timely decision to arrest the spreading trend of Covid-19 in the city.
People of Srinagar city will complete lockdown of three weeks on April 8, 2020. Even if authorities will take a decision to lift the lockdown of Srinagar city along with other districts of Kashmir division on April 15, Srinagar city deserves an ease in the restrictions for those hundreds of families who are really struggling to survive due to this fresh lockdown.
Srinagar city has witnessed a complete lockdown and paralysis of life from August 4, last year and this disruption in life continues till date. These 8 months of disruption in life in entire Kashmir especially in Srinagar city has left a huge impact on the economy and also on the unorganized sectors. There has been huge set back to private business units and tourism has almost vanished in the past 8 months resulting in adverse impact on thousands of families connected with tourist trade.
This is the back ground why Srinagar city is finding in difficult even to bear these four weeks of lockdown, knowing that it has been imposed on them only to save their lives. They know that Covid-19 threat is real and have cooperated with authorities in all their capacities and capabilities. Now authorities should also realize that the restrictions are to be eased so that the people who earn daily wages can get some money by working during the coming days.
