Amid the ongoing lockdown, a woman delivered a baby inside the police van when she was being shifted to the hospital in Channi Himmat area of Jammu city.
A police spokesman on Sunday said during the intervening night of April 11-12, a distress call was received from the Police Control Room, Jammu, that a woman, Sonia Devi, wife of Raj Kumar, from Uttar Pradesh, is pregnant and suffering from labour pain.
“Due to the lockdown, there was no mean of transportation to reach the hospital,” police said and added that acting swiftly on the information, a police team rushed to the spot and the woman was shifted to the hospital in a police van.
The spokesman said on way to the hospital, the lady gave birth to a baby in the van and after giving first aid to her, she was shifted back to her residence.
The locals appreciated the act of J&K Police during ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
