Surge continues, seven more from Bandipora test positive

Jammu, April 11

In all, 17 more persons tested positive for the Covid in J&K on Saturday, taking the total number to 224.

According to an official handout issued by the government, of the total positive cases, 12 are in Kashmir and five in Jammu province, including a woman, who gave birth to a baby on Friday and tested positive on Saturday. Three activists of the Tablighi Jamaat also tested positive in Jammu.

J&K Government spokesman Rohit Kansal tweeted, “17 new cases reported in J&K. Five from Jammu division and 12 from Kashmir. Total positive cases now 224.” The government said 48,202 persons in contact with suspected cases had been put under surveillance in J&K.

According to the daily media bulletin on Covid-19, of the 224 positive cases, 214 are active, six have recovered and four died.

Further, 7,729 persons have been kept in home quarantine, 422 in hospital quarantine, 214 in hospital isolation and 28,912 under home surveillance. Besides, 10,921 persons have completed their surveillance period.

The bulletin further said till date, 3,296 samples had been sent for testing of which 2,982 had tested negative.

According to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, the public was urged to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. It also urged people to stay active and perform short exercises to stay healthy.

Meanwhile, one more family member of an Udhampur family tested positive on Saturday, taking the total number of positive members to eight. The daughter of the woman had tested positive on Saturday. The husband and son of the 62-year old woman, who had died due to Covid, had tested positive on Friday.

In Kashmir, of the 12 new cases, seven have been reported from Bandipora, two from Kupwara and one each from Shopian, Baramulla and Budgam. The total number of positive cases in Kashmir has gone up to 180.

Sixteen more persons who were shifted into the administrative quarantine in Srinagar two weeks ago were discharged on Saturday after they successfully completed their 14-day quarantine period. A total of 1,827 persons have been discharged from the administrative quarantine so far.

Teams formed to check hygiene

Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation has formed multiple inspection teams, which have been tasked to check hygiene and safe distancing at outlets and shops selling eatables and essential commodities. The inspections teams have been directed to check hygiene standards and safe distancing norms at various sale outlets, which are functioning during the lockdown. TNS

IAF airlifts essentials to Leh

Leh: The Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted 30 tonnes of essential supplies to the Union Territory of Ladakh from the Jammu Air Force Station on Saturday. PRO, Defence, Jammu, said to ensure the timely delivery of medicines and ration, the IAF airlifted essential medical supplies and commodities from nodal points to the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
