MEDICAL SERVICES IN FOCUS

The government has been trying in the past few days to play with figures in order to cut the edge of criticism against them for alleged ill treatment to non COVID patients.

Recently many media reports and some accounts by patients on social media have shown that non COVID patients were not getting the required treatment and care in government run hospitals and health centers.

Director Health Services Kashmir has tried to play down the criticism and has claimed that all in their designated Non COVID hospitals, all the specialties are working as per routine. He said that they have set protocols as far as patient care is concerned. He said that the delay in treatment is because the doctors want to be sure that routine patients don’t suffer because of COVID 19 Pandemic although it took a toll on out working as well as human resource management.

The government has been silent on the basic demand of doctors and paramedics that they should be provided with PPE’s, masks and other equipment so that they feel safe to touch the patients and treat them.

Government should try to save doctors and paramedics staff from getting infected as in the recent past dozens of them got infected and are under quarantine. In such a situation priority of the government should be to set right the health care system especially in rural areas of Kashmir and provide them with adequate protective gears to save them from COVID-19 infection and bring them out of the fear that if they treat any patient he may a carrier of them infection.
