Naib Tehsildar’s family contests police’s “hideout bust” claim in South Kashmir

Pulwama, May 25, KNT: After the Police claimed of busting a ‘hideout’ and registered a case against a Naib Tehsildar in Pulwama, the family has contested the claim.

From Bellow village of Pulwama, the Naib Tehsildar Nazir Ahmad Wani’s family members said that the police claim is bereft of reality.

“The so-called hideout is just a ‘cold-store compartment’ wherein we used to keep Sprayer Pump and other agricultural equipments,” one of the family members, Shahbaz Ahmad told News Agency KNT.

He said that the shop is run by Arif Ahmad, Naib Tehsildar’s son, for the sale of pesticides in the area and “it is operational”. He added, “The government forces searched the shop thoroughly and found nothing.”

The family said the shops were built six months after the killing of Liyaqat Wani, a slain militant and a close relative of the family.

Alleging vandalism, they said that the Forces came in the evening on Friday and beat them up without any fault of theirs. “Also, they ransacked the pesticide shop of Arif while making searches there,” the family alleged.

On Saturday, the accused Naib Tehsildar reported at Police Station Rajpora while his son, Arif was also detained by the Police. The father-son duo continues to be detained, the family said.

It is pertinent to mention that Pulwama Police registered a formal case after combined government forces claimed to have busted a hideout in a shop at Bellow Pulwama which is owned by the Naib Tehsildar.

Official sources said that soldiers from 44 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group personnel from Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs, searched the house of a Naib Tehsildar in Pulwama.

A police official had said that a formal FIR vide number 39/2020 under Section 18, 19, 39 was registered at Police Station Rajpora. He had, however, said that investigation into the case was going on.(KNT)
