Delimitation Commission

Delimitation Commission

National Conference is caught in a very tricky situation as the speaker has nominated all the five MP’s of UT of Jammu and Kashmir as its members. Farooq Abdullah recently said that his party has not taken any decision whether to be part of the delimitation commission or not.

LS Speaker Om Birla on Thursday nominated three NC MPs, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi and Muhammad Akbar Lone, as associate members of delimitation commission.

NC MP Hasnian Masoodi said party was yet to decide whether to be part of the commission. But he openly said that they have challenged the entire process of the government of India since August 5, last year and his personal opinion was not to be the part of this commission.

“Law says MPs of those states and union territories have to be associated members of the commission where delimitation is taking place. There was no consultation with us,” Masoodi was quoted in the media as many reports said that Omar Abdullah visited New Delhi only to give his nod for being the members of this commission.

National Conference of late has been caught on a wrong foot as the party vice president Omar Abdullah is trying to play soft on the controversial issues with New Delhi including on article 370. Many of his political opponents have been claiming that Abdullah’s have secured their freedom for remaining silent on the issues as they have avoided showing any commitment for the fight to restore the article 370, and special status of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
