Assault on doctor by security personnel deplorable: DAK

Budgam, 03 June (KNS): Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Wednesday condemned assault against a senior doctor in central Kashmir’s Budgam district in the hands of CRPF men stressing on hassle free movement of medical staff across Kashmir.
In a statement, president DAK, Dr Suhail Naik said there seems to be no end to violence against health care workers as a senior epidemiologist has been thrashed by CRPF soldiers in Chadoora Budgam ON Wednesday calling it unfortunate.
DAK said, during the last three months, many harassment and beating cases came to fore which should be investigated.
It said that the doctors do not need sweets but hassle free movement which is important to reach hospitals on time and save patients.
“What is required is discipline on roads by security and hassle free movement. The government is waiting for a strike which actually is not a people friendly move during COVID-19 emergency,” it said.
There is a lot of resentment among health care workers against such episodes as has been seen recently.
DAK has expressed serious concern saying that are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately their colleagues are being harassed and not allowed to perform their professional obligations.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India asked States and Union Territories to provide security to healthcare professionals noting that incidents of violence were reported from different parts of India against healthcare workers.
“Rather than providing security they are harassing, beating, and not allowing doctors to perform their duties,” it said adding that GoI guidelines need to be implemented.
DAK said that at this time, any such incident of violence against healthcare professionals would create a sense of insecurity amongst the entire healthcare community.(KNS)
