Nepal police open fire on border; one Indian killed, several injured

Amid the diplomatic tensions between India and Nepal, Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) has opened fire on Indian citizens along the border in Sitamadi district of Bihar. In the firing incident, five Indian citizens were injured, while one succumbed, reported Jagran.

In the firing, a 25-year-old man, Vikesh Kumar, who was a resident of Pipra Parsain, was killed along the Narayanpur-Lalbandi border. Another injured, who was identified as Lagan Rai, has been taken into custody by Nepal police, the report added.

The clash erupted after a group of Indian nationals forcefully tried to enter Nepal via the border point at around 9 am today, according to Superintendent of APF Gangaram Shrestha, reported My Republica, a Nepal-based newspaper.

Initially, Nepal’s APF personnel fired at least ten shots in the air to disperse the Indians, the report said. “Even after we fired into the air, they did not go back; then we were forced to fire on them. One Indian national has been arrested for snatching weapons from the APF personnel,” said Mr. Shrestha.
