Uri rattles with gunfire, local lady killed

Police on Friday afternoon confirmed that a local lady in the front line area of Uri was killed due to heavy Pak shelling. Locals told this reporter that the shelling was so heavy that many families have fled from front line villages.

Locals have identified the killed lady Akhtar Begum of Batgran village. Reports from Nambla, Saidpora, Thajal, Silikote and adjoining villages, said that shells were landing in the compounds of people residing in these villages. local fear more injuries as some of eye witnesses have told local media people that many shells have damaged the houses in these villages of Uri near the line of control.

Earlier, a 35-year-old woman Parveena Begum wife Shabir Ahmad sheikh of Nambla suffered minor injuries and was shifted to SDH Uri for treatment, police said.

However, villagers said that they fear more injuries as the shelling was going on in the many forward villages of Uri. Reports from Silikote village of Uri said that many families have fled to safer places. According to the news agencies SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik said that people fleeing from the LoC are being kept in Government Girls higher secondary school Uri.

“If needed, we will vacant Government Boys Higher Secondary School and NHPC Government quarters at Bandi Uri.

The panic has also gripped the residents of Charunda, Batgran, Hathlanga, Soura, Mothal, Balkote, Silikote, Thajal, Tilawari, Nambla and Balkote, reports and officials said.
