A video of a woman sarpanch pleading before militants has sent shock waves throughout the panchayat representatives in Kashmir.
Gulshana, who was elected unopposed as sarpanch from Samipur, Zaingeer, in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district, was intercepted by suspected militants on Friday and later set free. However, before she was allowed to go, the militants shot a video wherein she was seen seeking forgiveness from militants and also announcing that she would resign.
“Please forgive me. I am a poor woman and will resign (as sarpanch),” she is seen telling the man suspected to be a militant in the video shot in an orchard. The video had gone viral on social media. — TNS
