Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu is all set to face a floor test tomorrow even as the Congress on Monday distanced itself from the exercise.
While the Congress has the highest number of councillors (17) in a House of 70, mostly comprising independents, hectic parleys, mostly secret, were held today among political parties of the region.
Sources said Mattu had a meeting with the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president GA Mir to seek his support. However, the Congress said it would “refrain from” the process.
“The party, after a discussion with senior party leaders and councillors held in Srinagar, decided to refrain from the no-confidence motion moved against the Mayor on Tuesday,” the Congress statement said. — TNS
