Lolab forest area under siege after exchange of fire

 

Kupwara, June 23: A gunfight between government forces and militants broke out in Walkool forest area of Lolab here in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday morning.

Sources told News Agency KNT that army posted along Lolab dense forest area found a suspicious movement in the morning and launched an operation. The militants believed to be 3-4 in number fired on forces resulting in a brief exchange of fire.

A source said the reinforcement was rushed to the area and all the entry and exit points were sealed.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kupwara Shri Ram Ambedkar told KNT that search operation is underway in the area. He confirmed there was a brief exchange of fire after which a search operation the forest area has been launched. (KNT)
