DRUG ABUSE

In this pandemic lockdown many social organizations, trade bodies including KCCI and DAK have expressed concern over the growing trend of alcohol and drug menace in the society of Kashmir. with thousands of youth without any jobs, many of them have taken to drugs and alcohol.

Society has been questioning the role of police in this entire menace, and has said that many rings were working on the ground with patronage of some police officials.

But police have been very active in the recent past against drug peddlers and they have arrested many of them from North to South and some of them have been slapped with PSA. Government cracked down on such rings in Kashmir valley before the August 5 clampdown last year.

With no normal activities for the youth in Kashmir from the past one year, growing rings of drug peddlers is now a routine in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir. While the police has claimed that they have busted many such rings in the recent past but the alarm raised by the society at large shows that there are growing rings of such anti-social elements in Kashmir society.

People have been appealing to police and other wings of the government to play their part so as to discourage drug abuse and other such activities among the youth in Kashmir. There has been a surprise growth of drug rings in Srinagar city and people have been complaining to police about them but most of them are still active and indulging in spreading the drug abuse.
