Army Chief reaches Jammu to review security situation along LoC

Amid rising incidents of ceasefire violations across the Line of Control (LoC), Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Monday reached Jammu to review the operational preparedness of troops deployed along the border with Pakistan.

According to sources, senior army commanders will brief General Naravane about the security situation on the ground. Army officials, however, are yet to make an official statement with regard to the purpose of the Army Chief’s visit.

Pakistan has intensified ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Over 2,500 violations have been recorded by the Army till June 30.

On July 10, an Army Havildar from Nepal was killed as Pakistani troops opened fire and lobbed shells from across the LoC in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district. This was the sixth killing of soldiers along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sector in Pakistan shelling.

In June alone, India lost five soldiers in Poonch and Rajouri sectors.

Pakistan army has desperately been attempting to push trained militants to Rajouri and Poonch districts under the cover of heavy artillery, mortar shelling and firing on Indian Army’s forward locations and civil areas.
