UT administration of Jammu and Kashmir at the first anniversary of abrogation of article 370 has claimed a lot of development here. Even after a year the government imposed curfew on August 4, first for 48 hours and subsequently after a lot of criticism decided to lift the curfew on August 5.
Though curfew was lifted officially through a government order but on ground strict restrictions were imposed and it was a virtual curfew. Mainstream political leaders including two former chief ministers Omer Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti claimed that curfew was basically in force and it was a hogwash.
Omar Abdullah described the central government as a hypocrite, allowing local BJP activists to celebrate and distribute sweets and blocking the Gupkar road even for a meeting for mainstream political leaders in the residence of National Conference president Farooq Abdullah.
Whatever the claims of the government about the changes in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir post abrogation of article 370, fact remains that still thousands of additional paramilitary forces are on the streets of Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir to maintain calm.
Omar Abdullah in a tweet said that not allowing them even to have a meeting at their residence on August 5, 2020 speaks volumes about their realities of Kashmir and real ground situation.
Mainstream political parties in Kashmir and many outfit regional parties in Jammu have protested against the delay in the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Most of the political parties in both Jammu and Kashmir region feel that they have no space to meet people and all the claims of the administration were farfetched.
