OVERBURDENED HOSPITALS

Now finally the JK Government has decided to lift restrictions regarding the lockdown to arrest the trend of growing coronavirus. The cases are only going up with the result bringing more pressure on already overburdened hospitals of Srinagar.

Though the government recently said that they will recruit more doctors and paramedical staff to combat the growing complaints of lack of staff and doctors in the Covid designated hospitals, the fact remains that all the hospitals are understaffed.

In such a scenario there is a lot of pressure on the existing staff strength available in these hospitals and it has led to a lot of cases where police had to intervene as the attendants alleged that despite not getting the care they were booked by the police at the instance of hospitals authorities.

Recently a media report claimed that a woman admitted to Srinagar’s Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial (JNLM) hospital for Covid-19 tried to escape after she tested positive for a fifth time. An asymptomatic case, she was first brought in on 2 May along with her husband and three children, who were also asymptomatic.

There are hundreds of such cases available in the localities of Srinagar who are moving freely as the government has failed to go for rapid testing.

Instead of increasing the testing till the announcement of lifting of lockdown, the government was only keeping red zones under barbed wire.
