Landslides Block Roads, Flash Flood Alert In J&K

Heavy rain triggered a massive landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Ramban Tuesday morning. Traffic movement was severely hampered on the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country, an official said.
“The landslide struck the highway at about 5 am, damaging a portion of the road. Agencies concerned have started clearing the rubble,” senior police official, Ajay Anand, told news agency Press Trust of India. Mr Anand added that the restoration work would take time given the damage to the road.
Traffic was also halted at Qazigund in south Kashmir after the landslide, the official said. Smaller vehicles were stopped at various places due to the closure of the highway.
MeT B Dictator/ LACD J.A Hyderi on Tuesday issued weather advisory vide order number WS(adv-01) dated 25.08.2020, in advisory secretary of Disaster Management said south west moon soon is active over in Jammu as a result of this there has been widespread moderate rain in Jammu and the same is most likely to presets to next 72 hours (25,26,27 Aug).
The advisory further said widespread light to moderate rain is expected in Kashmir division on 26,27 august scattered like to moderate rain also expected in Ladakh, Gilgit Bloachishtan region division on 26 and 27 august.
It also said IMD,s experimental shows that the soil at various places of JK epically jammu region is fully saturated and has got low water holding capacity continuous rain may lead to flash flood and land slide at venerable places.
This further said, this may lead to temporary disruption of surface transport including Jammu-Srinagar national highway Srinagar- Leh national highway (zojila pass ), leh Manali highway , mugal road and sadna top (KNS)
